What is No Place for Hate®?

No Place for Hate® is an organizing framework and ADL partnership program for K-12 schools. Our program is a holistic, school-wide approach to improving school climate that amplifies students’ voices in creating the school they want and leverages the wisdom of teachers, administrators and family members to achieve their school climate goals! The program can be tailored to meet the unique needs of your school and build upon the work you are already doing. Participating schools incorporate ADL’s allyship and bullying prevention resources with their existing programming to form one powerful message that all students have a place to belong.

Make Your School (or Athletic Team!) No Place for Hate® This Year!

Arizona Soccer Clubs and Teams are piloting No Place for Hate across the state!  They are taking this program and adapting it for the soccer field.  Are you interested in bringing No Place for Hate to your team?  Feel free to reach out to Kelsey Greenberg Young for more information – Kelsey.Young@adl.org.

2. Create a No Place for Hate® Committee:

This student-centered coalition is responsible for identifying bias and bullying issues in the school, developing measurable goals to address these issues, and coordinating and overseeing the implementation of anti-bias and diversity activities throughout the year designed to achieve those goals. This coalition should include students, staff, administrators, and family members that reflect the diversity of the school community.

3. Recommended A World of Difference® anti-bias and allyship workshops (optional)

The No Place for Hate committee, student leadership, or staff are highly encouraged to enhance their work by participating in an ADL anti-bias/allyship workshops. These workshops for pre-K through 12th grade school communities – educators, administrators, youth and families- focus on developing the knowledge and skills to challenge bias and bullying. Read about the options and please contact Education Director Cathy Lee at clee@adl.org for more information on virtual options.

4. Sign the No Place for Hate® Pledge:

All members of the school community commit to the goals of No Place for Hate by signing the No Place for Hate Pledge to start the school year.

5. Complete at least 3 School Wide No Place for Hate® Activities.

Each student must have an opportunity to participate in three activities that directly relate to bias, prejudice, stereotypes, discrimination, social justice, inclusion, diversity, name-calling or bullying/cyberbullying. These activities must be pre-approved by the ADL and should be spread throughout the school year.

6. Schools that complete these steps receive a customized banner designating their school No Place for Hate® for this school year!

If you have questions about working towards your No Place for Hate designation next year (and every year!) please contact Education Director Kelsey Greenberg Young at Kelsey.Young@adl.org and review the No Place for Hate guidebook for even more information.

“What advice would you give to someone who is considering joining the No Place for Hate
movement?”

My advice for someone considering joining the No Place for Hate movement is to embrace the opportunity and let your passion show in the projects you create. This is an opportunity to organize and build a strong community team around issues that are especially vital right now. ADL’s No Place for Hate framework gives educators a powerful tool. There are projects that you are already doing on your campus that fall within the No Place for Hate framework. ADL gives participants a way to unify them under a common theme that allows for ongoing growth and development with the school community each year. The No Place for Hate messaging and branding is powerful!
